There is a better way!

In fact, there’s lots of better ways, but to determine the best way for you, I have to get answers to a lot of questions:

  • What business are you in?
  • Who is your targeted market?
  • What are your peak seasons and slow seasons?
  • What are your high margin and low margin items?
  • What’s “hot” in your business right now?
  • Do you have a customer database?
  • Do you know who your best 20% customers are?
  • What advertising have you done?
  • What worked and what didn’t work?
  • What are your customers asking for?

Yes, the questions just keep on coming and coming because building a system to attract more business requires knowing what you need to accomplish and how to accomplish it. If anyone every tells you there is a "one size fits all" marketing solution they don't know what they are talking about.

Two Success Stories:

For one of my clients, a small local deli with a miniscule marketing budget, I developed a ” $50 per week Experimental Marketing Plan.” Every week he had a budget of just $50 to spend. One week he put coupons in every bag that went out… the next week he would drive to a nearby office complex just before lunch time and hand out menus that could be faxed for carry-out… not high-tech rocket science, but effective, low cost marketing.

Some of these "experiments" worked so well his business increased steadily. He used them for years until he retired. It worked!!!

Another client sold decorative refrigerator magnets. The target market was large mass merchants. The strategy I developed was to send a well-written sales letter and samples to the national (not local or individual store) buyers. Within a year we sold the magnets to every Walgreens, K-Mart, Sears, and Target store in the country with an advertising budget of less than $100 per month!
