Here’s a Personal Story About My
Loyalty to One Company:
I have enjoyed premium whole bean
coffee for at least 15 years, much before the existance of the popular
coffee outlets that are now just about everywhere. My brother in San
Francisco started mailing me a "good coffee care package" once a month.
Twelve years ago he told me the company he was buying it from had
instituted a program to ship coffee on a once-a-month, standing-order
basis. I signed up. Since then, I have had 4 pounds of Costa Rican
Coffee delivered to my door every month... and the coffee company does
all the shipping work.
What’s My Loyalty Worth?
Let’s see… If I bought 4 lbs. per
month at the current price of $9.95 per lb. that’s $477.60 per year.
Over the 12 years I have had that service, I have spent $5731.20!
In addition, over the years, I have
bought a coffee grinder (I like my coffee freshly ground), a few Bodum
French Press Coffee Pots (they’re glass and they break when dropped!),
a number of holiday gifts (they send a nice catalog that makes it easy)
for those on my gift list that like premium coffee, and even some tea!
That makes me a loyal customer!!!

That loyalty didn’t happen just
because I like their product. Actually today, I don’t need them. There
are at least a dozen places within a few miles of my home where I can
get similar coffee at similar prices (maybe cheaper?). But I stick with
them because they treat me well, their service is so very convenient,
every so often they stick a little “good customer surprise” in with the
coffee, and I like doing business with them.
